So here we are, once again, at the end of another year. Earlier this year, with the first Full Moon of 2018 in Capricorn, the article was called New Goals? You Will Need Steel Determination. What do you think about this? How would you describe 2018? Was the determination to your goals made of steel? Or where there moments in which your determination broke apart? Would you say it was a year that pushed you through? A year with forced lessons? Would you say that after the 2018 experiences have you been able to change as a person? To grow? To have a better and clearer understanding of how things work?
These are the type of questions that should be going through our minds now that we are approaching the last Full Moon of 2018, the Full Moon in Cancer.
The Full Moon in Cancer is happening on the 22nd of December 2018, at 0° Cancer 49′ at 6:49 AM CET (+1:00) or 12:49 AM EST (-5:00). Not your time zone? Click here.
The Last Moon Article
Before beginning with this article, I want to leave a personal note. This will be the last article of 2018, but it will also be the last article for a while. I will stop writing Moon articles for some time, and I don’t really know when I will retake them (or if I will retake them at all). Nevertheless, the website will still be active, the service of astrology consultations will be available, and I might still pop up with a transit article, or with an article of general interest. Things are changing, and we all can feel that the main colour of the year is changing, in the welcoming of 2019 with Jupiter in Sagittarius.
What this Full Moon brings is an opportunity to see clearer through the water flow. To see clearer through ourselves, through our emotions, through our hardships, and to understand that we can feel safe within ourselves at any moment.
There is a natural rhythm beating through the heart of the Great Life Mother. That we always have the possibility to forgive ourselves, and to appreciate this present as it is. This reality as it is. And that nothing we have ever had and lost is actually ever lost. Let us welcome the Full Moon.
After a while you learn
the subtle difference between
holding a hand and chaining a soul
and you learn
that love doesn’t mean leaning
and company doesn’t always mean security.
And you begin to learn
that kisses aren’t contracts
and presents aren’t promises
and you begin to accept your defeats
with your head up and your eyes ahead
with the grace of woman, not the grief of a child
and you learn
to build all your roads on today
because tomorrow’s ground is
too uncertain for plans
and futures have a way of falling down
After a while you learn
that even sunshine burns
if you get too much
so you plant your own garden
and decorate your own soul
instead of waiting for someone
to bring you flowers.
And you learn that you really can endure
you really are strong
you really do have worth
and you learn
with every goodbye, you learn…
-After a while – Veronica A. Shoffstall
At this moment we usually tend to look back at our decisions and at the things we have lost or won; these are sensitive days for everyone. With Mars in Pisces (until the 1st of January 2019), it is very easy to become oversensitive and to overreact even in front of the smallest things. There is some subtle sort of repressed anger. We cannot tap onto it easily. But it bursts out easily through the weirdest channels.
Nevertheless, Mars in Pisces and Pluto in Capricorn are in a sextile with each other. There is an opportunity to understand, in a practical sense, what the nature of reality is. Nothing we have ever had and lost is actually ever lost. We must acknowledge that life is a continuum. And this continuum is eternal by the process of evolution. Those good experiences we had will always permeate in our souls. With Jupiter in Sag (now amplified by Mercury), we should try to reflect on that nostalgic past, which we think is lost, as something that will always be a part of us, but now it must be transformed. Experiences, moments and friends are not gone. But within the ever evolving way of life, they are transforming into something new.
The Cancer-Capricorn axis is very nostalgic. The Moon in Cancer is very sensitive through the most subtle ways, while the Sun in Capricorn is also sensitive but tends to repress or mask this sensitivity with the face of solidity and practicality. But during these days, the hardest mask can also weaken, and it is not a surprise that people who have always been very hard tempered, are actually now experiencing questions about the nature of their reality, the paths they’ve chosen, and what are they actually doing. Many persons are having issues with how the reality of their lives today is (especially Pisces dominant people).
These existential questions fuelled by Mercury in Sag can actually produce a positive result. This is an opportunity for our minds get into a new shape by optimism and faith in life. This is something that should permeate through all this 2019, while Jupiter transits through Sag.
The Sabian Symbol* for the Full Moon’s degree 0° Cancer 40’ (1° Cancer) displays:
“On a ship, the sailors lower an old flag and raise a new one”
To which Rudhyar adds: “A radical change of allegiance exteriorized in a symbolical act: a point of no return”, “Reorientation”.
We can all, today, make a change in our minds. We can all, today, begin to really have trust. We can all, today, become more confident and take the first step into changing a situation. We can all, today, change the orientation of our life. This is the moment, this is the time.
The month of January in 2019 begins wild with the Winter Eclipse Season (or Summer Eclipse Season if you are in the southern hemisphere). A Partial Solar Eclipse during the New Moon in Capricorn on the 6th of January. Then a Total Lunar Eclipse will be happening in the 21st of January during the Full Moon in Leo (which will be visible totally in the whole Americas, and partially in most of the regions of the world! Magnificent as Leo itself!).
We must get ready, and get our minds clear and in shape to begin 2019 with vibrant energy and with the right attitude. To transform our present into happiness and self-fulfilment. To master a state of peace with our own selves. And these are the days to start working on that change.
With Venus in Scorpio in trine with Neptune in Pisces, however, we must watch out of not falling into obsessive behaviour. We can get obsessed with wanting to change our entire lives all in one jump and at the first opportunity. We need structure, people. We need grounding. Here comes Saturn in Capricorn to stop this and make us plan our movements, evaluate our options, assess which is the best way, what can be the outcomes, will I like this in the future years?
On a different scenario, this trine between Venus in Scorpio and Neptune in Pisces can also get us, as I have said previously, into obsessive pleasures! Pleasures such as shopping, sex, drinking or eating. Thinking that in some way, owning things will mask the way we feel with ourselves. No, my dear. The change begins in our attitude, in our minds and in our hearts. Not in possessions, not in “getting away”, and clearly not in meaningless drinking or eating. This trine is an opportunity to discover more about our potential and our capacity to transform, to create, and recreate.
I understand it is sometimes easier and it can be relieving to indulge ourselves a little bit. And indeed, it can be good for us, up to a certain point. Abuse is never good.
In short, this is a Full Moon to find ourselves again after the wild journey of 2018.
Let the calming soft waters from the Moon in Cancer embrace your soul. Let the wild fire of trust and vision take your mind. Allow yourself to feel your heart beating at every moment. This is real. Reality is real. But creativity is also real. We are humans, we are made of beautiful chaos. We make mistakes, but there is something unique in each of us: the capacity to use our creativity to transform our reality, to shape our situations and define our future in ways which align with our potential. In ways which resonate with our core being. Which is all and one.
Transforming the quality of our reality and existence is a task that can only be done by us. Failing is allowed. But the capacity of true understanding, learning and forgiveness is what will help us get back on track, this time reloaded and with a lot of energy to change, grow and move on. Paths change, interests also change, people come and go, and our ways can change too. But our true vision and our core belief will remain. That essence is a continuum, it is life. Which evolves, transforms itself, but is never ever lost.
